How to choose your next destination ?

Several factors come into play to make the right choice about your future destination…

2 – Focusing on the purpose of your trip

You don’t really know where to go, you hesitate between several destinations? Then ask yourself what the purpose of this trip will be.

You plan to travel, yes, but for what purpose? To relax in the sun to unwind from this difficult year, to discover a whole new culture and its people, to recharge your batteries with nature through multiple hikes?

The choice is vast and it only depends on you.

So how do you go about choosing your destination?

  • I target my needs
  • I establish a list of destinations corresponding to these needs
  • I look at the season of each destination according to the desired departure period
  • Take into account the global budget for this destination

And yes, traveling is not free, it has a cost, sometimes relatively high, depending on the destination.

If you are on a tight budget for example, there is no need to consider a stay in the Maldives.

Take into account your budget, if you want to travel on a small budget, it would be wise to prefer a stay in Europe at first.

Also consider the budget on site. Sometimes some destinations seem affordable at first glance when you look at the flight and accommodation, but on the spot it’s a completely different matter. It’s up to you to decide if you prefer to save money on your plane ticket and spend a lot of money on restaurants, or if you prefer to treat yourself at the destination and save money once you’re there. This is the case of Asia which may seem expensive at first sight (considering the price of some plane tickets) but once there, your wallet will thank you.

1 – Depending on the climate

The first thing to look at when you go on a trip is obviously the season!

Each country has its own climate with periods that are more favorable than others. This factor will undoubtedly have an impact on the success of your stay, so it must be taken seriously.

In order to get the best information about the climate of a country you want to visit, I advise you to visit the website : A very efficient site to know the best period to visit a country.

3 – Take into account the conditions and the time difference

Choosing your next trip can also be influenced by the distance to a destination.

Indeed, if you plan to travel for 7 days, avoid choosing a destination with 14 hours of flights and an 8 hour time difference. Take into account the time you will lose in the plane and the time you will lose to recover from the trip. You could quickly find yourself with a 4 or 5 day trip.

For destinations more than 8 hours away, I advise you to leave for a minimum of 10 days and more than 15 hours away, the better for a trip of 15 days or more.

4 – Conditions of entry to the territory

It is essential to find out about the conditions of entry into the country before making any reservation.

It would be a shame to miss your flight because of a visa not issued due to lack of time or an expired passport.

Some countries offer “on arrival” visas, i.e. issued once on site, but this is not the case for all. For some destinations, applications must be made weeks or months in advance. This is a fact to be taken into account and can help you decide on your final destination.
